Background: The Inle Lake is a freshwater lake and lucrative tourist site in Myanmar. In 2015, the Government of Myanmar launched the Inle Lake Conservation 5-Year Action Plan (2015-2020) to focus on biodiversity conservation, and support the active participation of local communities and key stakeholders in the development of the Inle Lake. However, there were limitations in coordinating the different stakeholders (i.e. government, non-governmental organisations, and local communities) to support the implementation of the conservation plan.
Solution: Bewsys developed a web-based knowledge management portal to provide transparency and efficiency in information sharing for stakeholder collaboration to implement the conservation plan. This website provided a platform for the public to access information on the Inle Lake region. The design process considered inclusivity by supporting two languages: English and Burmese and the easy management of the portal by users.
Impact: The website is helping to manage stakeholder engagement and programs to promote environmental conservation and the sustainable development of the lake. Additionally, data on the ecosystem of the lake aids in monitoring the progress of the 5-year conservation plan of the lake.
