The Sustainable Development Report 2021 highlights the impacts of COVID-19 on sustainable development projects. The report was launched at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable development. This annual report authored and published by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) uses data and estimates in the Global SDG Indicators Database.

The report's findings indicate that global extreme poverty is an impending block to achieving sustainable development by 2030. In 2020, 119 to 124 million people were pushed back into extreme poverty and an additional 101 million children have fallen below the minimum reading proficiency level.

Though the challenges are immense, the data analyzed in this report gives room for decision makers to prepare appropriately and collaborate effectively for the great impact on sustainable development.

The report also outlines how each SDG goal has been affected by the pandemic. Lastly, recovery plans post COVID-19 and the decade of actions for the goals are elaborated in the report. Read the full report here
